Leh, Oct 21 (KNO): A year after the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the lieutenant governor of the newly carved out union territory of Ladakh Wednesday termed the police commemoration day as historic day in the UT.
Addressing a gathering at district police lines Leh, LG RK Mathur, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the day will be celebrated with more respect and honour for many officials from now on.
"Ladakh with the UT status is celebrating the police commemoration day for the first time and it has created history,” he said.
He said, “On this special occasion we commemorate the day to honour police officials who have laid their lives in line of the duty.”
He also said that a new memorial has been prepared here which is a matter of pride and the day is celebrated with proper respect and decorum.
Giving the figures about the officials who have laid their lives in the line of duty, he said, “Five officials from Ladakh have died so far in the line of the duty while the names of 264 officials were readout here and with respect I bow my head to all of them."
He said that these officials have died either due COVID-19 or in militancy related incident and other incidents.
The LG said that no matter what they say falls short before the officials who have laid their lives for the national interests while protecting its integrity.
The LG also said “I am told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed that the government has to construct a school building in the memory of these officials to honour them and to preserve their names.”
The LG issued on spot directions to his Advisor and IGP Ladakh to complete the work in next one month—(KNO)
